Ingredients
4 slices thick-cut bacon, chopped
1/2 medium green bell pepper, chopped
1/4 small white onion, chopped
1 pound 85% lean ground beef
3 garlic cloves, minced
1 tablespoon italian seasoning
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1/4 cup pizza sauce
1/2 cup shredded Italian cheese blend
1/4 cup pepperoni
2 hamburger buns, split
Directions

1. Prepare outdoor grill for direct grilling over medium-high heat. In large skillet, cook and stir bacon over medium-high heat 5 minutes or until crisp; transfer to paper towel-lined plate

 

2. In same skillet with drippings, cook and stir pepper and onion 3 minutes. Add mushrooms; cook and stir 4 minutes or until vegetables are tender

 

3. In large bowl, gently mix beef, garlic, seasoning and salt until combined (do not overmix); form into 4 (1/2-inch-thick) patties and make shallow indentation in center of each

 

4. Spray patties with cooking spray and place on hot grill rack; cover and cook 10 minutes, turning once. During last 2 minutes of cooking, top patties with sauce, cheese, pepperoni, bacon and pepper mixture; cover and cook 2 minutes or until internal temperature of burgers reaches 160° and cheese is melted. During last minute of cooking, place buns, cut side down, on hot grill rack; cover and cook 1 minute or until lightly toasted, turning once. Makes 4 burgers

 

5. Serve burgers open-faced on bun halves
